MILESTONE: SR Technics’ Shah Alam facility equipped to handle labour-intensive repairs
SR Technics has moved a step closer to making Malaysia its hub for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) activities in the Asia-Pacific region with the commencement of its latest facility in Shah Alam in January.
The company, one of the world’s leading independent technical aircraft services providers, through its subsidiary SR Technics Malaysia Sdn Bhd, also successfully ramped up operations at its new centre of excellence for component maintenance on February 4.
SR Technics’ MRO facility, which initially supports about 300 parts, will be enhanced to 1,200 parts by end of this year, the company said in a statement.
The facility will be equipped to handle many labour-intensive repairs covering five main product areas, namely avionics panels, hydraulics, mechanical, pneumatics and electrical.
“The first components to undergo repair include hydraulic pumps, ball screw actuators, power drive units and audio control panels,” the company said.
Zurich-based SR Technics is own-ed by Mubadala Development Co.
With the new facility, Malaysia will become the base for its regional customer service and distribution centres serving its Asia Pacific-based integrated component services customers and managing all of their component supply needs.
“These are scheduled to become operational in the first and second quarters, respectively,” it said.
According to SR Technics, the new set up is part of the overall strategy to develop a comprehensive global operational footprint, designed to place the firm close to its customers.
“This approach enables the provision of best-in-class service level performance through increased effectiveness, cost-efficiency and responsiveness in the same cultural environment,” the firm said, adding that SR Technics Malaysia has a total of 109 employees, 94 per cent of whom are locals.
Commenting on the new facility, SR Technics president Andre Wall said it was a milestone for the company, firmly cementing its presence in the Asia-Pacific market.
“With more than 50,000 internal component shop visits annually, we are one of the largest aircraft component maintenance providers in the world.
“With wider component repair capacity, we will be able to focus more on in-sourcing new repairs, which is fundamental to our commitment to offering customers intelligent and cost-efficient component services,” he said.
The facility will initially operate under the European Aviation Safety Agency approval, while the Department Aviation Administration’s approval is planned for next month.
