Cymera, a free application offered by SK Communications, has topped the 30 million mark in downloads, the company said Monday.
The content affiliate of SK Group said that downloads have been rising fast on the back of growing popularity both in developing and advanced countries.
It took only 16 months to break the milestone. The app was launched in March 2012. It passed the 10 million mark in December and the 20 million mark in May.“Cymera is getting stronger in terms of client base. The app’s specified features are appealing to consumers,” spokeswoman Lee Mi-na was quoted as saying in the statement.
Daily downloads hover around over 150,000 thanks to good reviews about the application from Google Play and outlets.
Cymera is a free application that helps anyone to take a photo like a professional photographer and it also provides various decorating effects and filters through face recognition so users can make their own unique photo.
Users can easily share photos with various social networking sites such as Cyworld, Facebook and Twitter. The application also runs on iOS.
“Since Cymera was picked up by Google Play as one of the most recommended applications, we have seen over 10,000 daily downloads in the United States alone. Currently, Cymera has secured three million users,” said the statement.
Some of its advanced features such as the so-called “smart gallery” have also attracted consumers in South America. So far, over 1.6 million in some 220 countries use the application on a daily basis.
“About 70 percent of them are foreign users. While we are only supporting seven languages including Chinese, German and Spanish, SK Communications will add Portuguese and we are going to collaborate with leading cosmetics brands to sharpen the application’s key features,” said the statement.
Key factors behind the popularity of Cymera include its face recognition technology that allows users to decorate merit faces on the photos. Cymera seeks to increase its users to 50 million by the end of this year.
